31 Days of ASCP, Day 27...Your Work Zone

Well, here it is...my glorious "studio"!

Aka

The Garage
A source of marital contention
A place where no 4 wheeled vehicles have seen the light of day
An episode of Hoarders
I could go on and on.....

Note that in this photo there are 3 MAJOR violations taking place.  Our garage is divided into 4 quadrants.  I am allowed to spread myself out in 3 of them.  The fourth one {the one the Harley lives in) is OFF LIMITS!  Here I see that the brand new, was still in the box, fire pit I scored at Goodwill has traveled into the penalty box, along with the desk stool to my french provencal set and 2 cans of paint.

As you can see I've got some in progress work going on and several more that need to get started!  My goal is to get this under control and most of it out before the winter sets in.  Oh how I hate to get in a cold car.  I hope to have my van back in the garage in a few weeks!

Where do you paint???  We'd love to hear about your "studio"!

  1. My garage looks like your garage. Not sure where I'll paint in the winter. We do have a heater for the garage, but a small heater in Wisconsin's winter just might not be enough. I may make some room in the house to paint.

  2. I paint in a detached garage with no heat or air. I (sometimes) share it with lawn mowers, truck, chain saws, bikes, on and on. However.... just sent a contractor plans for a real "paint shop" to be built on our property hopefully soon!

  3. Ha!

As you can see from my blog photos, I paint in all the wrong places. Wherever the piece is ..is where I paint it. Sometimes in the sitting room or the kitchen table or right now, I have a piece in the garage and one I just waxed in the foyer. Yeah...I know, I'm so bad....but very neat!

I have a sewing studio, but the chalk dust is a no-no for that space.

So I will continue to paint where I stand ;->

  4. I too had taken over the garage, and I also didn't want to load kids in a cold car either. I carved out a small space in our unfinished side of the basement. I paint next to it, right on the concrete floor. Here is a post I did about it.

  5. Necie - I paint all over my house. Family room, dining room table, old dining room table behind my sofa, kitchen and when the weather is just perfect on my screened porch. I was thinking that I didn't want to look like a hoarder any longer after 2 moves within 2 years of each other...so I was adamant about no basement. DUH! HUH! Gigantic mistake. Now I dream of a basement or even better a stuido for my art work as well!

  6. Great Posts! I just read through 1-27 days of posts. I'm a fellow 31-Day-er (31 Days to a More Creative Life).

Question: I've been drooling over the ASCP since I found out about it several weeks ago. I am thinking about painting my kitchen cabinets with ASCP. Do you know how well it holds up over time? In a heavily used kitchen setting? And how often do you need to "rewax"?

  7. Hi. I learned about ASCP this summer and have enjoyed reading this series to learn more about it. There is a new shop in Denver that is now carrying the paint. I am very eager to give it a try. Thanks for sharing this month!

  8. Hello - I haven't painted in years but now I am - finally working on project pieces I've accumulated in basement and garage over the years because I just started renting a space in a darling "cooperative marketplace" here in Escondido California - the Rustic Sparrow. Realizing that I just like to work "in the middle of things," I've now officially converted my dining room over to a painting studio - moved a barrister bookcase in to hold all my supplies in cute containers, replaced the chandelier for better light, and it's great. If company comes over, I can shift things around and make room. Love your blog - very inspirational and educational!
