Things I've Learned - Home Based "Studio"

I paint in my garage.

Sometimes it is not the ideal situation, but over all it is the best solution that works for me and my family.  I've considered many locations and scenarios over time.

I've accepted the fact that my car will not be sleeping in the garage any time soon....

We have one rule...which has been broken in this photo...

THE HARLEY GETS ITS OWN "SQUARE"!

I push the "perimeter limit" all the time.  I'm allowed 3 squares in our 2 car garage and the Harley gets its own square. {Technically I am not suppose to sand in there garage either}

This is the biggest reason this situation works for our family.

I am home everyday after school for my 2 boys.  Many times we set up makeshift homework stations on unpainted furniture.

I can still work on laundry and my lame food preparation skills while going back and forth to my projects.  I can paint late at night and weekends too!  I'm pretty sure my neighbors think I am a crazy paint lady.

I am very blessed to have the best of both worlds.  I work at Total Bliss, my local Chalk Paint™ stockist, located a mile and a half from my house, 3 days a week.  I teach classes, help customers with paint, paint, and am surrounded by amazing home decor products and smells!  But, I'm home everyday for my boys!  I'm so grateful that Nancy, the shop owner, is so flexible with me!!!

I will admit that I've dreamed of my own shop many, many times.  But every time I really think about I go back to being thankful for what I have.

I truly have the perfect situation!!!

  2. Tell your husband he is very lucky - I paint on the dining room table! Almost always. When it's nice out, I paint outside, but then the sun goes down and it all ends up on the dining room table! I do move it all to the garage for special occasions though! ;)
